Evolving Hello Meteor
I promised a few announcements today, and here they are. It’s a bit long, so settle in and get cozy before reading on.
First, my new album The Coastal Obscure will be out on February 6th.
The pre-order is up now for those of you who would like to get a jump on things. (I highly recommend getting a jump on things. 1. Because it would make you cool 2. It would help me pay rent 3. Because why not) ;)
I consider The Coastal Obscure to be a close companion to The Lowland Forest (2016), but not necessarily a sequel or follow up. It’s more like TLF’s half sibling. Equal parts old and new Hello Meteor.
Think Pure Moods (the original compilation) combined with the feeling you get looking out at the ocean on a foggy day. You’re probably wearing a light jacket and a cozy scarf, possibly holding coffee you just bought on your walk here through town. There’s no one else there. Just you and the ocean (and probably the seagulls).
I’ve been evolving HM gradually over the last few years, with Causality Violations and Pantropic being the first two to really move in a new direction - more cinematic/atmospheric and less focused on our favorite 2017isactually1986™ sound.
My love for film runs deep, so it’s no surprise that it would slowly seep into my music. More than anything else, my goal is to tell stories - whether it be with music, visuals, or both (actually - ideally both, always both).
I’ve been lucky enough to start work on a few film projects recently, which has been another huge influence for how I’ve evolved Hello Meteor, and how it will continue to evolve.
Which brings me to my second announcement - I’m currently working on an original score for Sunset People, set to release in 2018.
Working with James, the director, has been something I’ve only dreamed about. It’s been a wonderfully collaborative experience so far, and I can’t wait to share the finished product with you all. Keep an eye out for future news on this front (release date, etc).
It’s worth noting that both The Coastal Obscure and the Sunset People score will be the only non-single releases for awhile.
Phew. Told you this one was long. If you’re still reading, thanks for sticking around. Here’s to a great 2018 for you and yours. As always, thanks for your support, my friends.
